Some Posts are Boring!

No book reviews today, although I am currently reading Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s biography by Eric Metaxas, loving it, and being challenged by reading about those who put their lives on the line for what they believe in times of great peril.

No movie references, because I haven’t seen anything worthwhile in the last few weeks except a bunch of  “Inspector Lewis” mysteries on DVD which center around Oxford University and are pedantic and fun, with lots of murder and mayhem and people who quote too many obscure writers and poets that too few have ever heard of, making the audience also pedantic.  (Remember that I was an English Literature major in college.)

Nothing new on the medical or historical horizon, unless you count the fact that our little puppy Sherlock as we speak is being neutered for the good of the animal population of the world and supposedly to make all 10 pounds of him less likely to attack the German Shepherds he comes into contact with along the road during his daily constitutional as he protects Michael.

You know, it’s a good old-fashioned boring, quiet, humdrum day.  The kind of day where sometimes you get up and wander around outside, a bit bored and distracted, thumbs twiddling, whistling or humming tunelessly and mindlessly.

I like these kinds of days.  They don’t happen very often.  Before you know it, something stirs up and temperatures rise, someone calls on the phone and there’s a crisis or a need or a problem to be solved.  And that’s not a bad thing in and of itself.  If we just had only days like today, life would be kind of boring, don’t you think?  (I don’t know, because I’ve never had a string of them, except on vacation in Hawaii years ago where there was no Internet and no cell phone service for a week.  A week that seemed like a year.  But I digress.)

At any rate, I’m going to enjoy today, because, as I said, they don’t come often.  They’re like a slow breath of fresh air in between gales of strong winds.

And because nothing stressful is happening, my mind is, well, it’s a hollow reed, as the Karate Kid would say.  That means that there’s not much going on in it.  So you’re off the hook today.  Instead of weighty measures to digest here in Rita’s Ramblings, go take a walk.  Have a cup of coffee.  Watch a good sitcom (if you can find one) or your favorite television program of any ilk.  Better yet, pray for a longer length of time than you would normally because you don’t have to rush to your computer to read what I have to say.  Read an extra few chapters in your Bible.  Maybe, if we each slowed down a bit today, it would do us all a world of good.

I expect those things that we have to get done will still be there later today or even tomorrow, sitting on our desks.

And whatever I thought was so important will still be waiting for me to ponder later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Right now, I’m going to go outside to my beautiful backyard and – clichéd as it might sound – smell the roses.

Enjoy your day today.

Regards, Rita
