From Russia, With Lots of Love

You know, there’s a lot wrong with the world right now.

You don’t need me to tell you this.

Just look around you.

There’s not a day that goes by without some calamity or other occupying the front page, the cable news talking heads, or the radio commentary.  You can’t get away from it.

So that’s why a breath of fresh air has been around our lives – Michael’s and mine —  the last few days, three Russian young men who make me laugh because they are filled with the joy of the Lord and the wonder of just being alive.

Sergey, Sergey, and Tolia.

Just saying their names brings a smile to my face.

They love being with people.  They love sharing the joy of Jesus with anyone who will listen, in English, Russian, whatever language is appropriate and available.  Every day is an adventure.  They have helped change lives in their community and in their city.  They will tell you the awful, terrible plight of orphans in Russia, descriptions beyond comprehension of lives on the road to utter despondency and despair, and then they rejoice because God is allowing them to have some impact on those lives, rescuing even a few of them, bringing them some modicum of joy and relationship, offering them a road to honor and integrity.  And most of all, the knowledge of a Savior who loves them and cares about them deeply.  This is their mission in life, and they live it daily, at great expense, with vibrant energy and total focus.

I am so proud to know them, and because I know them, I know that there is hope for the future of our world, starting in a small corner of Mother Russia.

This isn’t hyperbole.

Look at them in the photograph surrounding Michael and pray for them.  Pray for them whenever you think of them, whenever you think of Russia, yes, whenever the country of Russia is mentioned.  Make a commitment to do so.  What a great honor it is to be able to share in their ministry through prayer and support.

When I spend time with these young men, I can honestly say that there’s a lot right with the world right now.

  1. I look forward to your “ramblings’! Thank you Rita….have a good week!
