Happy New Year!!!

It’s been quite a year.

Most of it has been wonderful, but some of it hasn’t been so good. Obviously, how you view 2014 will depend quite heavily on how you felt physically, what happened to you during the past twelve months, and what the future holds for you and your dear ones. We can’t help but be influenced about how we perceive the new year and the old one based upon our own personal experiences and how life treated us. None of us is so saint-like that we can let bad things wash over us without a disturbance. We soak bad news in, bad experiences, bad doctors’ reports, you name it, we internalize it and allow it to color our perception of everything around us.

So I’m hoping as you read this that 2014 has been fair to you, with some ups and downs but also with much joy and laughter. One of my favorite authors, Donald Miller, recently wrote this great truth: “Some years are better than others. I’m writing to let you know if you had a bad year, things can and likely will get better. Much better.”

That’s encouraging to read, isn’t it, especially if you’ve had a bad 2014.

And what I wish for you, dear reader, whoever you are and whatever your circumstances, is two things: First, that 2015 will be a year of much more joy and laughter, or at least that the laughter will outweigh the tears. That’s all any of us can hope for in this life anyway. And secondly, that you would dig deep within your soul and find the strength to get through whatever negative it is that might meet you along the way this coming twelve months. That there would be good friends and true to walk the journey with you, and that, most important of all, your relationship with God would grow so close that you would be impervious to laughter or tears, joy or sorrow. It would all seem the same because you know the God of all emotions, of all experiences, and of all blessings.

Well, maybe that’s three things, or four that I’ve wished you!

I’ll see you on the other side of the new year, and I’m excited to share yet another 365 days with you in 2015.
